Emergency Relief

South Asian Tsunami, Dec 04: In the critical aftermath of the Boxing Day Tsunami in December 04, IODR provided emergency relief and facilities throughout the island. Aid provided included the purchase and supply of building materials and the setting up of temporary shelters for survivors and their families. Food, clothing, plastic sheeting and sanitation/water facilities were also provided immediately following the earthquake, with funds being made available to orphans and other homeless survivors.

IODR have additionally assisted in the affected areas by re-building permanent structures for those whose homes had been washed away. Since then, further funds have been used to rebuild local schools, orphanages and libraries, and to repair and purchase fishing boats so that local fishermen can continue to sustain themselves and their families.

IODR also provided police officers temporary facilities whilst their irreparably damaged police station was being rebuilt.

Kashmir Earthquake, Oct 05: With the assistance of IODR's local partners, IODR volunteers were able to provide emergency relief in the area immediately following the earthquake. Sanitation and medical supplies were distributed amongst victims, together with clothing and food packages.

Burma Cyclone, May 08: Responding to the devastation caused by the 2008 cyclone, IODR worked in conjunction with local partners to provide emergency relief to victims in affected areas.
